My Rate Card
I am often asked what I charge for design services. It's a bit of information that I should have published years ago, but for one reason or another I am only now getting around to it.
I charge the same for all types of design services; Logos/Icons, Templates, and Print. Although as a general rule I shy away from print, it's the toughest of the design fields and it leaves little room for error correction and the time frames are always tight.
My rate card is simple, I charge $60 (US) an hour.
Estimated times for each type of project...
It's difficult to give hard and fast time estimations but in a general sense it takes me :
- Templates (Manila/Blosxom/MT/Typepad/Drupal), usually take me 3-8 hours depending on the complexity. Designs that are simply modifications of a theme or design I have done in the past obviously take much less time than original works.
- Logos are a mysterious and black art. A great design might arrive 'deus ex machina' or we might have to placate the design gods before finding what we want. My track record of producing a good logo in the first few tries is above average, but I never know what will happen. 1-8 hours
- Application Icons are a lot like logos but OSX icons especially are more fun to produce. New compositions might take me 1-6 hours, but an update to an existing one might only take me 1 hours. A set of application icons (document, buttons) is a rather large project, and I will have to have a good idea of the scope before giving a time estimate.
- Print can never be pre-judged. I'll have to know a bit about any project before giving a general time estimate.
